Guest Guide
Hello! Welcome to our lake home. We are happy to have you as our guest and we hope you have a great time at Kentucky Lake! My name is Matt Riordan. I am usually the one to reach out to our guests to send your door codes. Behind the scenes is my good friend and business partner, Josh Paulson. We are both from Evansville, IN. Our families purchased this home together and remodeled it during the COVID quarantine of 2020.
Should you need anything at all during your stay, don't hesitate to call or text either of us. We want to make sure you have a 5 star stay! If we did, we greatly appreciate your 5 star review on the rental site you used! THANKS!
Dock, lake & grounds
- Dock
- Our dock is the one with a flat white roof and dark blue railing & gate on the walkway. You may use 1 covered slip (there are signs that face the water to show you which slip to use). If you need to use more than one slip, please check with us first, as we sometimes have the other slips reserved. If not, Moors rents slips by the day.
- Swimming
- You are welcome to swim from our dock. There is a swim ladder on the right end. Please watch for fishing hooks, as many fishermen fish around the docks. If you would like a sandy beach to swim at, follow the shoreline from our dock past the Moors lodge (big log building); you will eventually find a nice big sandy beach that is a popular swimming area.
- Fire pit
- The fire pit by the dock is shared with the 4-plex, but you are welcome to use it.
- Firewood
- Donny lives at the prop shop where Duplex Ln meets Moors Rd. He sells firewood (he can also repair your boat props, and if you lose a valuable item in the lake, Donny can scuba dive to attempt to find it for you!). Call him at 270-362-7174.
- Parking
- Our parking lot is shared with the 4-plex. The property line is just past the edge of the metal carport. Please keep your vehicles on our side of the property line.
- Boat trailers
- If you have to park a boat trailer at the house, please make sure it does not interfere with the occupants of the 4-plex. If your trailer will fit, you can park it in the grass next to the covered sitting area.
- Trash
- Please place trash in the large trash cans outside. We will take it to the dump after your stay. If you wish to use a dumpster, the city provides a parking lot full of dumpsters for public dumping very nearby (0.6 miles) at 60 Livingston Rd. It is only open Tues, Thurs & Sat from 6 AM–6 PM. Please do not use Moors' dumpsters.
House how-to
Thermostat
The number with the blue circle is the A/C setting. The orange circle is the heat setting.
TV
All of our TVs are Fire TVs or have Fire Sticks. They should have Netflix available and logged in already. If there is a local internet outage, the TVs won't work until the internet is working again. All remotes are identical & labeled.
Washer & dryer
Nothing unusual... just check the lint trap in the dryer before using.
Microwave
Open the door, enter the number of seconds needed, close the door, push the button with a triangle that looks like a "play" button.
Check-out
I hope you enjoyed your stay at Buckhorn Manor! As a reminder, check-out is at 10:00 AM on the day that your booking ends. Before you leave, I request that you:
Food & shopping
You are just a short walk from Ralph's Bar and Grill, as well as Moors Resort & Marina, where you will find several playgrounds and a putt putt course.
There is also a Walmart in Benton, KY.
Fishing
If you wish to go fishing, you can purchase a fishing license from Moors Marina. They sell some live bait and other supplies there (pizza & ice cream also!). If you want a fishing guide, Big Kahuna's fishing guides are based out of Moors: chrishicks2418@gmail.com, 270-331-3519.
Shuffleboard rules
How to play
2 player games: both opponents throw from the same side. 4 player games: 1 player from each team plays on the same end of the table & the other 2 players play from the other end of the table.
Players alternate sliding 1 weight at a time until all 4 weights of each team's color are used. At this time, points are counted and play continues from the opposite end. The team which scored points on the previous round must shoot first on the next round. If no points are scored on the preceding round (e.g., all weights are knocked off) then the same team goes first on the next round. Play continues in this manner until one team reaches the designated points.
How to count scores
Only one team scores in a round. The team which has their weight closest to the end of the board scores. All of their weights which are ahead of their opponent's deepest weight are added together for the score for that round. The entire middle of the table is worth 1 point, but is only scored if the opponent has no weights past it.
Weights completely across the "2" or "3" line count 2 or 3 points. View from above: you should be able to see some wood between the line and the weight. If any portion of the weight is hanging over the end of the board, it's called a "hanger" and counts 4 points.
